First Kiss: Expectations Vs. Reality

Who doesn’t imagine their first kiss will be like a scene out of your favorite movie? Unfortunately, IRL, your first lip lock can be pretty awkward. Here are six things you expect to happen during your first kiss, versus what really happens.

Expectation: It’ll be just like a romantic movie scene <3!

Reality: It happens totally randomly in a totally random (unromantic) place, like in a school hallway, or the mall parking lot.

Expectation: It’ll be a slow, sweet, and totally hot.

Reality: It goes something like we never want 🙁

Expectations: At the perfect moment, your crush will pull you close, and your eyes will close, your heads will tilt, your lips will lock, and you’ll know exactly what to do.

Reality: Your eyes are wide open, you have no idea which way to turn your head, and your nose bumps into his nose.

Expectation: The kiss will be totally unexpected but in a totally cute rom-com way, like in the middle of a sentence, or when you accidentally bump into each other.

Reality: Your first kiss is a dare by one of your friends. So it’s totally planned and your friends are all there laughing in the background.

Expectation: Your crush is so hot and therefore, must be the best kisser ever.

Reality: The kiss is super sloppy, and you’re pretty sure you hit his teeth. OMG there’s so much saliva involved—it’s like your dog licking you! What is he doing?!

Expectation: It’s amazing, and life-changing, and you wish you could do it again.

Reality: You feel embarrassed and confused, and secretly wonder if you were too slobbery, or if your breath was bad. You’re still trying to figure out how you feel about the whole situation, when your crush goes in for another kiss, and it ends up being super awkward (again).
