Sometimes you need straight up, pure inspiration and feel good moments in life. They seem to hit us in places that draw upon special emotions and can even get us reflecting on aspects of our lives. This did that to me, so I’m sharing it with you.
In a typical wedding, the father, and mother, play the symbolic role of “giving away” their daughter when a man and a woman get married. In that sense, to the pride, the father plays an important role for her at her wedding.
Imagine being the father, you see your little girl all grown up, and about to get married herself. You remember back to when she was just a small baby coming into this world and now all of a sudden she’s 20 – 30 years old or so and you wonder where the time went. You might be wondering if you did what you wanted for her during her life up to this point. Most of the time we hope dearly that our children are happy and if a wedding is truly important to them, you would want it to be a special day. This father did just that and it’s so touching.
Nicole Cortez posted the following video, on YouTube, of her father signing the song “I Loved Her First” by the band Heartland. Although Cortez is not deaf, she is a sign language interpreter. Her father, did not know how to sign prior to the learning how to sign this song. He decided to learn the song because to him, this was his way of showing how much his daughter meant to him.
As Nicole stated on YouTube “This meant the world to me. He said it took him the entire year I was engaged to learn how to sign this song.”
Personally I’ve been having a tough, tiresome and long week. Watching things like this are sometimes the perfect medicine to remind you of how much love is in this world -it also gets you reflecting on what is important. Spending time with loved ones, taking a breath, taking time to enjoy what you do. The little moments. So often we rush through life looking for ‘the end’ of each journey, and adventure, and often times we miss out on all the glory and beauty that happens along the way.
So watch this video and enjoy it, be sure to stay until the end so you don’t miss the very BEST part 😉 (the dad signs to the son in-law “I’m watching you”) And remember, the moment is all we have, stay present.
