We all want a longer and happier relationship, and the key to that is definitely in the bedroom! Of course a healthy sex life is an important part of most people’s relationships. Happy couples have a number of habits in common, but what they do during the day matters just as much as what they do come evening time. If you feel like your nighttime habits with your partner are dull, you might want to pay attention to the interesting things happy couples do before bed. Imitating these habits might help you improve your relationship — or maybe just make your bedtime a little more enjoyable and your sleep a bit more peaceful.

That’s why it’s so important for couples to make the most of whatever alone time they have together ― whether it’s an hour or just 10 minutes.

1. Switch your phones to silent mode, and put them away.

3. Avoid talking about work and stress.

Try to put work to the back of your mind, and stop checking your work emails when you are in bed. Also, you can’t check it if you don’t have your phone, so there’s another reason to unplug! It’s so much better to spend that time together resting, and be more productive tomorrow. Pillow talk connects couples emotionally! It helps you to forget about problems, and it makes you feel relaxed. Avoid talking about heavy subjects such as work, and also things like finances, that could make you or your partner feel worried.

4. Avoid arguments or touchy topics.

Don’t go to bed with negative energy. That’s not a good way to go to sleep with each other. So make sure that if you’re conversing with one another in bed, then avoid topics that could potentially lead to conflict or an argument. Keep things nonconfrontational and easy.

5. Have a heart-to-heart talk.

Sometimes, a nice deep philosophical or emotional conversation with the person you love the most is the perfect way to end the day. Pay attention to each other’s feelings. You don’t need to give advice or find immediate solutions to problems. Sometimes we simply want to talk and feel the care and support of our loved ones.

6. Give each other a massage.

Nothing is more relaxing after a long day than a little massage. A light and relaxing massage before going to bed improves the quality of your sleep, reduces anxiety, and brings couples closer together. Try it out!

7. Don’t forget about those affectionate hugs and kisses.

Don’t forget to kiss your partner before going to sleep, and cuddle for a few minutes when you are already in bed too. It’s a very relaxing situation and evokes positive emotions. Psychologists say that hugs make your relationship stronger one!

8. Put your cigarettes and alcohol away.

Many couples like to have a glass of wine before going to bed to create a romantic atmosphere. However, while your body is digesting alcohol, the restorative period of your sleep becomes shorter. That will make you feel tired, distracted, and easily annoyed when you wake up in the morning. Alcohol also makes snoring likely, and the nicotine in cigarettes promotes insomnia.

9 Take a nighttime walk.

There’s just something about the dark that helps people open up and speak from the heart. Take advantage of this and head out for a walk together after dusk. You can share your deepest feelings or just enjoy the cool evening air.
